MESA VERDE, CO, September 22, 2007 ... It was exciting to actually explore the Mesa Verde as we are John Wayne fans and it is referred to in his movie "McIntock" which is one of our favorites. The Mesa Verde is our nation's richest archeological preserve. It was a great opportunity for us to explore the Ancient Puebloan Cave Dwellings. It was fascinating to see how people built "villages" inside the mountains. It was quite an adventure climbing down into the dwellings and back up again. As we were descending down the Mesa, we ran into rain. We could see it touch the ground and was very near the end of the rainbow. It was all we could do not to venture out to see if we could find the pot of gold. Then to our surprise, one rainbow became two. I don't believe we have ever seen a double rainbow. This was an absolutely amazing adventure.

FOUR CORNERS, CO-NM-AZ-UT, September 23, 2007 ... We took a day trip over to Four Corners which is the only location in the United States where four states meet. Four Corners is located on the Navajo Reservation. Navajo tradespeople had booths to sell their handmade crafts and jewelry. You often wish you could be in four places at once, well here you can, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah.

OURAY, CO, September 24, 2007 ... We took a day trip to this quaint Colorado mining town known as "Switzerland of America". The drive was spectacular with the fall foilage at it's peak. We strolled the streets and had a quiet lunch. The odd looking tunnel you see in the photos is a slide tunnel which protects the road from snow, rocks, rain, etc. As you can see in the photos, there is already snow on the peaks.
